toy danger warning!
In recent times, there has been much discussion and media around the importation of potentially dangerous toys from China.
As a result, the Federal Government has banned children's toys that contain unacceptable levels of lead. It is now an offence to supply toys which have lead migration levels above the limit specified in the current Australian Standard, which is 90 parts per million.
The ruling follows US toy manufacturer Mattel's recalling of more than 22 million products made in China last month due to safety concerns over paint lead levels and loose magnets.
Lead migration refers to the ability of lead to enter the human body from a particular source, such as paint on a toy.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will be enforcing the ban.
