Kidsafe SA

about kidsafe sa

Kidsafe was established in 1979 to focus the attention of policy makers and the community at large on the need for improved child safety measures. Kidsafe SA Incorporated is the South Australian licensee of the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia (CAPFA), a national organisation devoted to the prevention of unintentional death and injuries to children.

On an average day in Australia, accidents involving children result in 5000 children requiring medical attention, 170 of whom are admitted to hospital. Tragically more than one child dies – all as a result of injuries.
About Pic 1
Children under 5 are the major group at risk, and account for over half of all children injured at home, primarily through falls, poisons, scalds, burns and cuts. Unfortunately these accidents are very often predictable and therefore often preventable.

In a little over 20 years since the establishment of Kidsafe, the number of children killed as a result of accidental injury has more than halved. Kidsafe, along with other like-minded agencies has undoubtedly played a major role in this decrease. However, injury is still the leading cause of death in Australian children aged one to fourteen years, accounting for nearly half of all deaths in this age group. There is still more work to be done!

Kidsafe is an independent, non-profit organisation, which relies on sponsorship, donations (both corporate and private), project grants and fundraising to finance its work. Kidsafe needs your support!
