After an incredible 15-year ride, The Julian Burton Burns Trust will close its operations on 30 June 2018 and pass on the legacy of its burns prevention programs, including the successful BurnSafe program, to Kidsafe SA who will continue this great work.
Julian established the Burns Trust in March 2003 with the support of Professor Greenwood AM and Sheila Kavanagh AO of the Royal Adelaide Hospital Adult Burns Service. A celebration of the Burns Trust and its remarkable impact was held on Friday night (4th May) at Adelaide Town Hall.
Kidsafe SA will continue to deliver the highly successful BurnSafe Education Programs to Primary Schools and Early Learning Centres in SA, as well as foster development of these programs nation-wide. These programs are designed to educate children and their families about the incidence of burn injury, offer practical prevention strategies and basic first aid knowledge. These programs are designed to meet the National Quality Standard, Early Years Learning Framework and the National Australian Curriculum.
Almost every burn injury a young person suffers is preventable and BurnSafe encourages children to be more aware of the incidence of burn injury, its major causes and how they can reduce the risk of suffering a burn injury.
Kidsafe Australia will also deliver on the burns prevention strategy through National Burns Awareness Month in collaboration with Mundipharma.
A huge thank you to the Burns Trust Board, Julian and his Team, and all Burns Trust Supporters. It is an honour for Kidsafe SA to continue to the burns prevention legacy for children locally and nationally. We are committed to advocating for and protecting children from injury through the delivery of these successful prevention programs.
